What an awesome way to start the day!
Since the new horse can just barely be touched, let alone lead, we started our morning constructing a chute from the mustang pen to the round pen with gates & panels so that Dylan could run him safely back and forth. Dylan worked on basic move-your-feet skills and had him turning, accepting a soft rope being thrown over his body, and at the end, was able to start grabbing the drag line. The mustang's first round pen session went really well.
Establishing motion and direction.
Resting with two eyes on Dylan. This is the foundation of joining up and creating a partnership.
A soft rope tossed over his body gets him used to things touching him. Doing this in the round pen allows him the freedom to move while he figures out that while weird, this doesn't hurt and it also keeps Dylan at a safe distance from flying hooves and such as horse settles into the new sensations.
The fruits of resting with eyes on the human: rubs and scratches feel GOOD!
